In a granulate production process for the production of plastic packaging for foodstuffs, nitrogen is heated to dry the granulate.
For this, the nitrogen is heated with thermal oil using a Nitrogen heater. This is a gas heater that is characterized in that there is no phase transition and the heat transfer takes place between the gas and the thermal oil. In this case designed as a shell & tube heat exchanger.
The conscious client initially approached ROBOX for repair of the existing heaters. These turned out to be broken frequently. ROBOX has successfully carried out various repairs, and has also investigated the cause of the failure in parallel. Due to the large temperature differences between the thermal oil and nitrogen, great tensions arose within the device. This is due to the choice for a fixed tubesheet configuration in which the tubes cannot move freely relative to the hull. Due to the large temperature differences and accompanying expansions, the tubes were actually pushed out of the tube plates. ROBOX then made new designs within the existing installation and dimensions, using u-pipes. These can move freely relative to the hull and thus no tensions arise. ROBOX has designed and built 2 new heat exchangers each for 4 production lines. From commissioning to the present, these heat exchangers function without any failure to the full satisfaction of our customer.
It concerns Shell & Tube heat exchangers. One-pass shells with U-bundle and integrally welded bonnets. TEMA type BEU (different diameters and lengths) Entirely in stainless steel according to PED and ASME VIII Div. 1.
